I was thinking of doing some sound recording for a local orchestra and when I started to look into it somebody mentioned that I might need to get the equipment I used "PAT tested" to cover for insurance etc.

Does anyone know how much this would cost and whats involved ?

The list of kit would only cover a laptop, usb audio interface and a couple of mics.

Thanks inadvance.

Mark.

The only item you have mentioned which would require PAT tested would be the mains power supply for the laptop. I haven't a clue how much it would cost tbh.

And you wont get much PAT testing done on that. its likely to be double insulated so no earth bond test and you may think twice about stuffing 500v DC up its chuff for IR test!

Our last PAT test at work destroyed a PC power supply.

Might be worth asking the Musicians Union or call into a decent musical instruments shop and ask them.

Ask their safety guy if they want it. I do ask for it, but won't go mad if I don't get it.

I think most tool hire places do it for something like 5 quid an appliance

So its only going to be a visual anyway, the OP might as well give it a quick look and get hold of a roll of stickers :)
