Patch old wall, behind radiator

I have a radiator falling off the wall, because the house is 1900s, and the wall where one of the brackets was attached is disintegrating.

I plan to shut off the rad, remove it, and patch the wall with a strong mix mortar (2 to 1, maybe?) Do I need any bonding or finish, bearing in mind that it will be hidden behind the radiator . . . . or will the mortar on it's own be strong enough to drill into in a few days, to fix the radiator bracket to again?

Any advice, greatly appreciated....

A strong mortar mix is the last thing you want.

Is it on an internal or external wall? Is it just the plaster that's disintegrating or the brickwork itself

Hi - thanks for your reply - it's on an external cavity wall, below a window - the brickwork itself is disintegrating...

Your best bet is to use plasterboard adhesive.
