Patching an old plug socket

I've just ripped out a fitted cupboard and discovered a square hole where a plug socket used to be. The electrics have been taped up etc. Just wondering the best way to patch it up before re-painting the room?

Is the socket wires still live? this will determine what you do.

not sure to be honest. there are wires there that have been taped up. i think when they removed the socket they moved it about 1m to the right so it wouldn't be obscured by the built in cupboard
