Is it possible to build a patio that is level with DPC, BUT the patio separated from the house wall with a 150mm width splash strip filled with decorative stone. Various reasons for it, but is this ok.

Yes it's bad practice but done often.
Why would you say it's bad practice? The issue I have is I cant get a digger in the garden in any way. digging out another 150mm will be very hard work with the tough ground and just be a big drop from the patio doors and a lot of steps up to the lawn.

Increased chance of damp. The bigger the stones the better but you'll still get splashes from the stone onto the wall above the DPC.

I see what you are saying, Maybe if I line it with stones that are not level with the dpc and about 40mm lower than the surface of the gully.
