When the guys laid the slabs at my house the pointing between the slabs was a pre mixed mortar in a tube like a mastic gun/tube assembly except it was twice the size of normal. Went in well and did not leach onto the slabs. It has to be done when the slabs are bone dry to avoid leaching and i was told that a 10mm gap between the slabs is about right, although some of mine have a larger gap than that so count 10mm as a minimumn.
