Pen Drives / Memory Sticks

As mentioned this is a common misconception. Usb drives (includes SD, CF blah blah.) do have limited read and write cycles.

A regular external hard drive is def the way to go for backup. Enterprise solutions are now migrating to this instead of magnetic tape.

I personally dont favour online backup providers.

A) Many ISP's impose this rediculous bandwith usage, and I would prefer to use up mine on something other than backing up.

B) Do you actually know where your data is being backed up? and who can access it? Many online backup providers sub contract out storage behind the scences.. I wouldnt trust them, especially with any .docs .xls which may contain personal info.. but thats me..

Hard drives are much more reliable, if you listen to manufacturers anyway, the MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) on average is 500,000 hrs which equates to roughly 57Yrs! - yeh right, but I've still got a 256MB HD yes 256 megabytes! which still read/writes like the day it was born!

Enjoy.
