I've got an issue with the above where by the drive appears to have failed, when I take it apart the end of the armature appears to sit against the inside of the bearing adjoining the gears for the blade assembly but I can't figure out how it transfers the drive, the end of the armature appears to be cast and doesn't show signs of having cracked

Can anyone explain how these non belt driven mitre saws typically transfer drive from the motor to the gear box please?

They're electric motors with brushes.
Have you checked the obvious?
Power supply and brushes?
Post some pictures.

Thanks here’s a couple of pics of the assembly
