Persimmon Chief Exec £128m bonus

shortage of homes means more people are homeless, and drives up the cost of housing.

It does not affect the house of building a house (though it may affect the price of land) so it increases the profits of housebuilders and estate agents.

How much does it cost in materials & labour to build a decent & respectable 3 bed semi with driveway & garage ?

Could naked homes be the answer to the housing crisis ?

they already have a site lined up in Enfield were it aims to start building naked homes in 2019 & expects to finish the project in 2020

it is suggested that a naked home could be up to a 3rd cheaper ??

Slight shift off thread . . . But does anyone know how much tax Persimmon paid last year?

you mean there's no profit and the company has no overheads?

Where does the money come from for directors' bonuses?

I've often wondered but never been able to get to grips with it -

Whilst house prices shoot up because of demand and shortage of supply, the price of materials and labour, presumably, has not similarly shot up.
Has the price of land shot up keeping it at half the value? If it has, why, when so few houses are being built?

Therefore building and selling a new house with materials and labour at the same price as, say, ten years ago just means extra profit for the builder.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing because, obviously, everyone would sell at the market price - but shouldn't they pay the tradesmen more, or do they?

What then, is the solution? Self builds?
