Hi everyone, can anyone help get my petrol generator going. Has been laying up for some months indoors, I've drained the fuel out and put fresh in, oil level fine, carb cleaned out, spark at the plug, removed air filter, still not firing. It sounds like it's gonna fire but just won't, sometimes spitting loudly. Seems to wanna start more when the choke is off as opposed to the normal on for starting, driving me mental now. I did a little video of me trying to start it, will try and post it up so you can hear it.

Was laid up for some months but in the house nice and dry, working on it as I speak and maybe the float in the carb was sticking open flooding it, got the plug out now and letting some air in the plug hole. Will stick back in a min see what happens

Thats the low speed fuel mixture screw......turn it right in (gently) and back out 1 turn for starters.
When you said you had cleaned the carb out, was it a complete strip or just the float bowl off?
Which engine is this - a Honda or a chinese copy?

If you are happy with the state of the carburettor (which means at least
taking the main jet out, and the emulsion tube above it) then perhaps the fault is elsewhere.
When you pull the starter cord, does the engine fire once, but refuse to run? If this is the case, its best to remove the flywheel to check for a sheared woodruff key......more common than you'd think!

Atleast drop the bowl and see if it is the float, if not done already.
