Hi there,

About 6 months ago i obtained a 1.6 205 GTI, i am now 39 so no longer

a boy racer im afraid, i thought it might be a good idea to do the car up

and give it to the missus.

When i got the car it had two main faults,

1. Lots of blue smoke out of the exhaust,
2. Did not like starting when it was cold.

After i rebuilt the engine the smoke problem was sorted

'valve stem oil seals', unfortunatly the cold start fault is still there,

i have checked all the fuses and changed the 'cold start valve' but to no

avail, as i am not very electrical minded could this be the 'ECU' or i have

been told it could be a 'MAF' sensor, could anyone please shed anymore

light on this matter for me please as it really is an irritant now.

By the way when the car is warmed up it starts and runs lovely.

regards
Stan :(

Don't know alot (well, sod all really!) about the pug gti's, but if you've done a rebuild and changed the cold start valve, then the usual suspects of plugs + leads, and the coolant temp sender would be the next things to check.

Also check it's getting plenty of fuel when cold...... if the fuel is running back to the tank because of a weak fuel pump or dodgy non return somewhere, then it will take a while for the pump to get the pressure up

Thanx for the reply but i can eliminate plugs, leads, dizzy cap etc all replaced when the head was re-built.
