phased gennys?

I was visting a hospital in yorkshire last week and the enginner showed me the back up gennys for the site, i asked if they had a essential and non essential side hense the 2 gennys but he said no they were phased together? can someone explain how this systom works?

Same as in power stations, They use an instrument called a syncroscope.
OR, as in in my early days, 3 bulbs connected across the two sets. when the lamps go out you throw the second generating set on line!

In hospitals it is common for two gens to run, as said, one master and one slave.

They are synchronised just as power stations across the country are.

If one engine fails, there is still another running. If two fails....... :roll:

One of things they always say is, for a hospital or RAF base etc, the backup power supply is always the mains :wink:

I once did some design work on a missile lifting crane at a Scottish naval base (which shall remain nameless). The ultimate backup 'power supply' was a very large handwheel and as many sailors as could be mustered. :lol: :lol: :lol:

But what else can you do when you've got a nuclear missile halfway out of a sub and no power? :x :x :x
