Hello all

Im looking how I can repair these benches.
They have been butchered with a pressure washer.

I need to make them usable for kids.

My guess would be that the timber in the pitted bits was already pretty rotten if it has come out like that.

my thought the person using the pressure washes has done you a favour
a normal pressure washer can't remove good wood, it can only remove rot
get a stiff wire brush /screwdriver/chisel and clean out loose
paint with stabilizing solution or even preservative
when dry use outside filler that can cope with wet conditions unprotected

Yes, fair bit of the elbow grease done for the OP there. Compare with the benches in the background!
Timber that is regularly maintained simply wouldn't have that much stuff growing on it.
I am not sure how well any coating or filler will stick if it hasn't dried out, however.

All of them?

Easier to replace the wood, imo.

Cheap at the price for a man who can afford £200 trainers.:p

New benches then?

New benches then?
Canabalism if you have several
Look at flipping over filled planks as a way to hide iff it works and can be reworked
Or make new components from the same sized wood shaped to fit using the old one as a template for size and hole position but be prepared to live with odd coloured planks even after finishing with oil

Thats a very good idea. As long as they come apart. Ill take a look.

Thank you

other options

if you can get the exact same benches then that could be a far easier way to fix with spares as any dismantling off failed planks can be fully destructive as screws bolts and other fixings are likely to be very very corroded so splitting the damage plank around the fixing to allow you to cut/grip badly rusted fixings that wont give easily

but again be prepared to live with odd plank colours
