Curse the MI wannabe!

Obviously had no idea how to tackle this.

The MI was terminated (by the look of it) to an adjacent wall where an old CU used to reside. The wall was removed, so the MI needed to be lengthened.

You can just see the 2.5mm T+E taped to the bottom piece of pipework (well painted in). Incidently, it was taken from a 30amp 3036 way in a CU (the wall and CU where removed years ago). The 30amp 3036 was feeding the 4mm radial circuit. The MI feeds a fire alarm panel in an old police station.

If the alarm is battery backed do you need a Pyro supply to it?
If it did then I'd use a metal box, terminate pyro into, ceramic block, new pyro out of the other side.

Yes, you do need a a supply wired in fire resistant cable, although back in the day when this was originally installed (as in the pyro), you would not have needed to.

It should have been done as you have said, even using a galv through box or U box. FP would also have been ok. The joint would be better placed elsewhere though - proximity to external influences!

Many (@20) yrs ago I worked on what was, a new terminal at Gatwick airport, where I was a 'mate' to an experienced 'pyro' guy. We had miles of cabling, and after using the 'five wheel' roller on runs of over 70mtrs it turned into a work of art with this guy, I really did enjoy the work, and believe, like a decent tube job, that it 'looked' good. The discharge from testing to shocking effects on various occasions !
Not FP tossed across and cable tied here and there.(grrr)
