I'm building a timber frame garage. I want to put a roller shutter door in and the timber frame can't support this so i want to put a steel over the opening and hang the roller shutter from this.
I'm waiting for a cost for a goalpost over the door. If this is expensive, would a block pier either side with the steel on top do the job? would a single block on flat pier be a bit unstable?
Thanks

There is no reason why a suitably designed timber frame could not support your shutter

Piers may or may not work it all depends on how they integrate with the rest of the frame
