Hi
I am new on here and have just been informed that as my proposed single storey extension of 8 x 4m is close to a large conifer it will need either 2.5 m deep footings or several piles.
As I am thinking that a depth of 2.5 m will need removal of a lot of spoil and require a considerable amount of concrete !
Could anyone please advise me if piles would be the least cost and if they could recommend a good reasonably priced piling contractor?
Any advice would be welcomed

PhilIpL, good evening. and as this is your first post welcome to the board.

Suggest you have a look at "Shire piling?"

The above may? be cost effective for you?

BUT?

It all depends on what ground is below your home, sometimes Shire piling will not work, all depends on the geology in your area.Shire do not work in "Shrinkable Clay"

As an aside was there a bore hole and trial pit undertaken ?

To find out the Geology in your location, there is an App available it is called "I Geology" and it comes from the British Geological Survey the App on a Tablet or some sort of mobile technology will allow you to locate your area if not indeed your home and determine the Geology your home sits on.

Is there a Structural Engineer involved?

Ken.
