I have tried numerous times to relight the pilot.I release the button very slowly after about 30 seconds, but the light does not stay on.The boiler is 15 years old. do you think its time for change? thankyou.

Any RGI should be able to fix that problem in itself for not too much; if there are no other issues, no need to replace yet because of it.

Replace thermocouple about 3 quid to buy installation 10 minutes to half an hour if tricky, don`t be ripped off. Don`t let engineer buy the thermocouple. buy it yourself, ask for a` universal` thermocouple, give it to engineer. watch him go white then ask how much to fit. 25 quid max.

If a Customer handed me a thermocouple to fit i'd tell him waht to do with it, AND Universal thermocouples arn't all they are cracked up to be, as an RGI I am entitled to earn a living without ripping people off, if the said thermocouple failed after a couple of weeks I have no doubt that said customer would be expecting a FREE visit to sort it out? :x

But why would younot be making what you want from the job if customer supplied part .If you want to make X amount then why not be open with customer and say that.

Fitted thousands of universals and failure rate is a lot less than 1%

And what happens when the 'universal' doesnt suit your boiler?

I have a Main Medway automatic water heater and the pilot light won't light after trying start procedures any ideas?thermocouple maybe?

Paul, you need services of a heating engineer for that. A universal thermocouple will not fit if I am not mistaken
