Are grooved channels on the underside of pine T&G essential, desirable or unnecessary?
Am thinking of something along the lines of 20mm thick, say 140mm wide. Probably sitting on top of original pine boards with a layer of 2mm high density sound-proofing rubber between. And either nailed or tongue-tite screwed at regular intervals.
Any advice?
Also, what is the likely cost per square metre of this timber with or without grooves underneath? And should I always choose kiln dried for this type of installation, and how does that effect cost??
Trying to get an idea if my painted flooring solution is going to be within budget.
