Pine Table Refurb

Hi All,

I have recently been given a pine table similar to this one:

And I would like to do some work on it so it looks like this:

I have also just bought these chairs and would like the wood to be the same colour as the white table legs (we are reupholstering them as well but got that covered).

I have no experience in this area as I have just bought my first house so if anyone could give me some useful tips and what I need to buy that would be great.

We got the table for free so willing to spend a suitable amount of money to do it up and make it look as good as possible.

From what I can see from these pics, the white painted lower section of table is simply that white painted. Presumably what is not evident from these pics is that it's a flawless, no blemishes dings or otherwise and you want to get it the same...am I close?

First off I would suggest you have them sprayed with a suitable lacquer, the chairs being new will require little prep other than a keyed surface to accept the lacquer. The table frame may require more work, depending on it's condition, if perfection is your goal. First removing the original coating (have it dipped would be my first choice) then any flaws would have to be filled (car body filler - filled epoxy or similar) this would have to be rubbed down until perfect, then primed and rubbed down ready for spraying with the same colour lacquer as the chair frames...pinenot

Sorry I didn't add much detail to the current condition .

The table is in a good condition with no major dings etc and we like the character it has.

The table doesn't seem to be coated in anything and looks like it is just the original pine (there is no varnish on it etc.). I realise that the photo shows that is a coating, but mine does not.

So, the steps I would need to take are:

- Spray all surfaces with a suitable lacquer (any suggestions, brands etc.?)
- Paint the legs of the table and chairs white (again, any brand suggestions?)

As the surface of my table has not been coated could you suggest a method and products to allow me to get the same surface finish as in the photo.

Also, could you recommend any suitable brushes I need?

Like I said, brand new to all this and it's my first project so any information would be useful.

As for the spraying, I would not try to do that myself but rather a professional/good sprayer with use of a booth and all the dust free conditions that implies. Prime the surface with ESP, then paint, then spray with laquer to preserve surface.

Could you just clear up what ESP is please?

I have gone into my local hardware store and explained my situation. They have recommended:

- Prepare all surfaces by sanding all surfaces down
- On the table and chair legs use "Crown Multi Surface Primer and Undercoat"
- Once dry, paint the legs with "Berger Pure Brilliant White Satin Finish" or "Crown Quid Dry Satin Pure Brilliant White"
- On the actual table, either use Ronseal "Quick Drying Varnish - Satin Antique Pine" or "Rustins Antique Pine Wood Dye" and then "Ronseal Ultra Tough Satincoat Clear Varnish".

Are there any better quality products I could use instead of these or are these suitable enough for a dining table? Happy to buy these if they are good but happy to spend more money if there are more "specialist products".
