pipe bore, what difference does it make

Hi I am just about to fit a bathroom sink and was going to get a couple of 300mm flexible hoses, when i found I already had a couple but they seem smaller bore internally.

I know that when you buy hoses it often specifies the internal bore, what difference will I see if I use the smaller bore pipes on the bathroom sink?

Does it make a lot of difference, ie will it be poor strength out of the taps, or is it not normally noticeable.

the conventional way of thinking is to have the build up of pressure as close to the outlet as possible, just like in a shower system, to gain the maximum flow rate available, so you would use the larger bore.

That said, unless i am mistaken, over in europe, they have been using 10mm bore piping for sink taps, because a large flow rate is often not required, and as you come down in bore size, you will get an increase in pressure - so long as your supply pressure is high enough.

if the ones you have, are the same as the larger bore ones you can buy, you have nothing to lose in trying them, if they are not suitable, then unscrew them and fit the larger bore ones.

you get an increase in back pressure

water at 3 bar is just that water at 3 bar

water at 50 lpm is just that

now water at 3 bar at 50 lpm is a different animal altogether

so unless you have the 2 neither is pertinent
