Pipe from cylinder

The hot water supply pipe that leaves the top of the cylinder - can this be plastic OR copper if it is to comply with any water regs? Can the vent be either material? Thanks!

i assume plastic would be ok if supported adequately. but i wouldn't entertain it, the ov must be solidly in position & it would look appalling.

Would partly depend on which plastic pipe type you're using - some are not approved for boiling water, even under no pressure. Much better to use copper

I speculate that this is so due to it looking "different" to what you are used to seeing i.e. it is relative. I used to make glassfibre kayaks and then polythene ones started to appear and most people thought "yuck" "ugly" "cheap" etc. Now 90% plus are poly and they are not viewed this way. Alos - it's in the loft and rarely seen.

My reason for asking was that I have seen one with plastic 22mm and Speedfit and was curious as to water regs and could find nothing that said no. The pipe I know can take much higher than boiling point but not sure about the Speedfit...

no it does look appalling.

i have seen plastic used extensively on plumbing & heating systems & indeed use it myself where appropriate.

in my opinion out of sight is appropriate, to overcome problems or where expediency would dictate. in a roofspace, under flooring, within a void etc.

in plain view when installed professionally copper looks neat & professional. the minimal extra time involved in installation is well worth it.

in plain view plastic looks amateurish, ugly, its use promotes poor practice & the result is hence appalling to behold.
