I've noticed that the pipes under my house are mostly bare or lagged with felt pipe sleeving. I was going to buy some more and give it all a proper coating before winter.

My local diy store has 5 options:
Economy pipe insulation
Byelaw pipe insulation
Water regulation pipe insulation
Pipe insulation
Felt pipe sleeving

Is it all down to what I can afford or should I not even consider anything other than regulation? Should I use a combination?

It seems rather expensive!

The thicker the better (that's the insulation ;) )

But not so expensive as all the heat wasted warming up the earth! Or do you have a basement?

It's all under a suspended wooden floor. About 3 foot of free air.

Pipes include:
lead (water in)
copper / plastic water hot + cold
copper / plastic central heating

Have you had the floorboards up to do another job or just out of curiosity?

That's a large space to be heated unnecessarily.

Insulate the cold pipes to stop them freezing and the hot ones to prevent heat loss.
