Hi

I have a question. I have changed valve on main water pipe and noticed that pipe was missing about 4mm to be touching end of the compression fitting ( in the valve)

Is it a major problem if the pipe doesn't hit the end in a compression fitting?

Tyanks

Not ideal, but there enough left on there after the olive to give a good seal

I thought so. I didn't want to change olive that's why I left it. I guess it should survive next 20 years like it did up till now

Absolutely no bother at all - as long as the olive is fully onto the pipe, and the pipe has an insert and it's at least few mm extra then there will be no issues. As it's the olive that creates the seal and that has plenty of pipe past the olive to support it then crack on.

I have also made a small nick on the mdpe when removing old olive... Would that be a problem? I slightly shaved it it's just under the nut past the olive.

Thank you
