I meant the one below in the thermostat cable.

Ah ok - forget what I have said, then.

I am sorry again, I misunderstood after Eric said it was used as a live conductor.
 
The stat is wired wrong.
The middle terminal is 1 which the brown wire should be connected to.
Then the black wire should be connected to 2 (left) if you want the pump to stop at the temperature the stat is set at.
Or 3 (right) if you want the pump to start.

The brown being the switch live or the black that’s connected to mains in the controller?
 
set your multimeter to the correct setting and place one probe on L on the pump and the other on N ;)

Absolute legend rewired and working thanks so much can light a nice fire now and not worry about blowing the house up
