PIPES UNDER FLOOR

I'm going to be running 22mm speedfit pipes to radiators over a distance of around 8 metres.

Since there is plenty of room underneath the joists, am l ok to just lay the pipe flat on the concrete base or do l still need to wrap it in something?

In theory you are supposed to insulate all pipes. Given that most of any heat lost from heating pipes will end up heating the space above, albeit at a somewhat reduced efficiency, I wouldn't bother.

However, be aware that the pipes could freeze if that concrete is uninsulated.

IMO I would look to insulate any pipework under a suspended floor, especially where runs are longer. I'd want as much heat getting to the rads and less trying to heat up a void.

Are you sure you want to use plastic pipes and speed fit connectors under the floor ?

And once the rodents get in they will enjoy chewing those cables

Why is that a bad idea? For ease of installation and don't want pipe showing above the floor.

There is insulation under there. I just pulled it back for the picture.

1. If the pipes are under the insulation touching the concrete base, the freezing risk remains.
2. Insulation will only keep heat in / cold out for a certain amount of time. Continuous exposure to freezing temperatures will result in frozen pipes eventually.

Ok so should l wrap them in lagging or lay them on top of the insulation? There is a 15mm pipe which supplies the outside garden tap and that's just been laid over the slab. Touch wood never had issues with it freezing.
