I have a PIR operated floodlight in our back garden that seems to have a mind of it's own!
When you are in the garden,in the dark, and pass in front of the PIR the light comes on and then goes off as it should.
But if you turn the light on manually from inside the house it goes on and off for about 6 cycles before eventually operating properly.
I know these have a manual over-ride to put them on permanently but this is very erratic, doesn't come on and stay on but just on and off a few times, there's nothing in the garden moving about to trigger it and up until a month or so ago it worked perfectly.
Any ideas guys? I'm guessing it's only a relatively cheap fitting from a DIY store so maybe the PIR is not the best quality,do they give a lot of problems? do they vary from make to make?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

They are all rubbish.

3 options

dont switch it on manualy

buy a new one

buy a separate pir and light

Thanks breezer...right to the point!
Took your second option and bought a new(better quality?) unit from a local trade electrical supplier....explained the problem to them, the new light comes with a 3yr gaurantee so will hang on to the receipt just in case, they said any problems I can take it back ;)
