ideally it should be rcd protected as its electrical equipment outside but its not that critical.
the problem with putting it on a rcd that serves other stuff too comes if it starts to leak. If you do put it on a rcd protected cuircuit then at least make sure you have some form of double pole isolation in place in case it starts to cause problems.
