The marks on the ferrule look like extra grip points to help stop the cable being pulled out.
Odd since that suggests a ferrule end is less likely than a single core cable end to be pulled out.

the marks on the ferrule are from the tool that crimps them on..

been using them a while on certain led light fixtures, as supplied without shells the wires were forever getting pulled out but since shells and cord grips have been supplied they seem to work ok, though the one shown at top for panel wiring I cant see any reason why it shouldnt be ok as long as the wirings not disturbed
