My garage has a room (study /bedroom) above it. I want to take the ceiling in the garage down and replace it. What would I need to replace it with to meet current building / fire regs ?

Would 1x15mm thick plasterboard, then skimmed with wet plaster be sufficient ?

you can use ordinary 12.5mm and skim. this will give you 1/2 hour fire resistance. this is a standard requisite for domestic situations.

it may be an idea to pack the void fully with fibreglass insulation too. a messy job but well worth it for sound and thermal insulation. ;)
