Hi

DIY newbie here, living the first time buyers dream on a shoestring.

I need to board my kitchen ceiling. There are already battens running adjectent to the rafters (400mm spacing). There used to be aweful UPVC cladding up there.

The room is 2000x5100.

The battens are at the wall, then at 520mm, 720mm, 520mm.

I have 8x4 9.5mm board coming tomorrow.

Am I ok screwing in at this spacing or so I need noggins for the Joints?

If so, I need to buy a saw!

Also, on a room of these dimensions- why are people's thoughts on tape and fill vs. saving up to have someone skim it? I've two friends in construction with wildly different opinions.

Thank you ever so much!

John

yeah you should be ok, but would have been better off with 12.5mm board.
Skimming is always the better job, but taping and jointing you should be able to do yourself.
