Hi everyone,

I've just moved into a new house, at the moment the understide of the staircase is covered with old crumbing plaster, that has broken away due to movement of the steps im guessing.

I want to take all the old crumbling plaster off and start again.

Would it be okay to use normal plaster board, or should i use a ply or different type of wood instead, or should i do something completly different.

what would be the best solution here?

Normal 12.5mm plasterboard will be perfect. You can also get 9.5mm plasterboard too, but i'd go for the 12.5mm,, stronger. You might need to add a few bits of timber here and there to fix to, but if not, then screw up in place, tape it if necessary, then skim it over, perfect job.
