How do, when plasterboarding around outward facing corners using 2x1 battens, whats the correct way of putting the battens on the corners?

Inward corners I understand but outward bit confused

Is the below correct or wrong?

My worry would be the gap?

Wrong!!
As you have shown in the diagram with the plasterboard, just do the same with the timber. Fix one timber batten, to one side of the corner, then fix the other batten to the wall, but overlapping onto the first piece. That way, no gap.
