plastering help needed

we have just had a plasterer in to qoute us for doing 2 ceilings and a few bits of skimming ie over blocked in doors etc.
basically he has told us thet the artex swirls on the ceilings cant be plastered over and we need to rip out the ceiling and do it again. does anyone have any advice as we dont want to do that could we plasterboard over the exsisting ceilings? he said its about £150 a day each for him and a collegue so we are looking at £300 a day - is that about right. also is it better to be quoted per day or per job as im worried that it could strtch the amount.
we are just at the last stage of totally renovating and have managed to do everything else ourselves but plastering is another matter.

any help or advice would be brilliant!

No problem plastering over artex ceilings ive done loads of them . Think he is trying to rip you off

definetly over board, i wouldnt go down the day rate road either, get a price for the job ie overboard,skim and patch up the doorways.
