Morning everyone . As you can see my photo I have some ugly surface mounted sockets and trunking . There will be plaster and black mortar underneath - I was going to tackle by hand to minimise the dust ( the room is empty) . Appreciate your advice on undertaking this job . Thanks

Run the cable directly to the left of the double socket then up to the single "TV" socket. If you have a Multitool use a with a masonry attachment it helps to create a channel without too much dust.

What country are you in that has black mortar?

Are you in a coal mining area?

How old is the house?

Plastic and masking tape over floor
Cardboard over window and anything that may get hit with flying masonry.
Drill lots of holes.
Cold chisel masonry out to create a channel.
Lash with PVA and let it dry for 3 hours to seal masonry.
Mix PVA 50/50 with water.
Run cable up in that trunking you have. Might as well use it up to sink cable in wall.
One coat plaster fill.
Leave it 2 days to dry off
Decorating power filler over to smooth.
Leave 3 days to dry.
Sand smooth with 120grade paper on flat block of wood.
Paint
Put feet up
