Plastering mistake

Hi i was wanting some advice please the thing is i bought a plastering trowl of ebay the thing is i think ive bought the wrong tool lol
So ive bought a new one thats 11inches my other one that i bought of ebay is 13.5inches but it says its a finishing trowl could someone explain what a finishing trowl is exactly also should i get rid of it Thanks.

Hi Bretty,
Welcome to you.A finishing trowel is normally used for plastering.It is more often than not stainless steel and flexible.It is worth keeping,as it is probably as good a trowel as your other one.If I had one that was 13.5 inches long,there is no way I would swap it for an 11 inch one.It's worth holding on to.

Its used for the final trowel on the wall to close the plaster down and acheive a smooth flat finish.

they are all much of a muchness really, the one i use for plastering is a 13 x 4 marshalltown finishing trowel. Its stainless steel.

My dad uses a carbon steel trowel that actually says plastering trowel on it. the difference to me is only the way the blade flexes and wears in. The stainless trowel is more rigid and takes ages to break in. However - it doesn't rust!
