Ive got a plywood arch next to the chiminey breast on the flexable plywood has come away underneath (it's about 4 inches wide that curves around the bottom).

I'm going to replace this with another bendy strip of plywood but was wondering what I need to put on it so a plasterer can paster over it.

I've read you can get galvanised mesh that I can fix to it (perhaps even staple it to the wood).

What can I put on the wood so it's ready to plaster?

As Micilin says, ask a plasterer. Get some advice from a plasterer, let him see the job and take it from there. One thing is for sure,, i wouldn't do any prep if i was you. Leave it all to whoever is going to do the job. That way, any problems that might occur, can't be blamed on you.
