Is it ok to plaster directly onto plasterboard - does it need sealing at all?

Or do you have to put some expanding mesh or something over it first?

In my ensuite I am putting a wall hung toilet in and understand that I should use either 2 layers of plasterboard or can use 18mm ply.

Yep no problems 2 coats of multifinish no need to seal boards just scrim tape the joins , if u r doing it yourself practice on a bit of board first.Good luck.

Your post says plaster on to plywood

If you meant that then the answer is No, If it is used outside you can render on to it using certain methods of fixing to it to hold the render , but you cant skim directly on it....

Yes confusion i your post ,plasterboard follow my thread ,plywood no.

If you need the strength & rigidity to screw to, for the wall hung toilet kev, you can use the ply then screw plasterboard to it & skim.

This will provide a very sturdy backing for fixing the toilet to.

ah, good point. could use 18mm ply then thinner 9mm plasterboard.

Cheers
