I have a section of plasterboard with gloss paint painted directly onto it - what preparation do I need to do prior to applying multi-finish?

I was going to key it then slap on a load of PVA.

You'd be better off with a decent bonding agent - wickes bonding agent, blue grit, thistle bond it etc.
You may get away with diluted pva, but the decent physical key on the shiny bits will help the plaster go on

For any one interested, I had a seasoned spread give us a hand over skimming on a complete house, different surfaces.

The bonding agent he uses is a self mixture of, pva, sbr, water and k-rend ( for the grit )

Painted/rollered on the day before and works out a lot cheaper.
