Plastering over wooden beam

In my dining room there is a wooden beam which the upstairs joists sit on. In plenty of places the plaster as fallen away from this beam. I was wondering what the best approach to filling it in is? As the plaster is about 2cm deep I did consider chipping back the plaster and screwing in some plasterboard left over from the ceiling before filling but wondered if there was a better solution?

2 ways you can do it, the best way you have already mentioned the other way is to run a strip of eml all the way along the wall, I would chop all the plaster off the wall exposing the wood all the way along the wall then screw plasterboard to the beam then plaster over the top
