Hiya, i moved into my house last year so no idea if problem has been since then or just started.

Turned central heating on in Dec.. worked fine for a while but got a leak from the pipe coming out of small tank (expansion tank i think its called). Soon as central heating stopped working the leak stopped.

Then we started getting a very loud noise comming from this tank when ever used hot water for bath etc as we still had hot water just no CH.

Called out a plumber who changed thermist and got heating working BUT still had leak and the loud noise. My dad repaired the leak for me as said it was a leaking pipe but this noise is still happening whenever CH on or about an hour after using hot water.
Ive been into the loft and the noise is being caused by water constantly boiling in this little tank for say 10secs, stopping... some water (like a drip)then comes from what i think is called the cold water supp tank and the boiling starts again.
It used to only happen for 20mins or so after heating or hot water but since yesterday its not stopping and ive had to turn CH off to shut it up.

I am 10months pregnat this week and dont know what to do as this plumber i orginally called out was no help and i cant afford to be ripped off if i call some one else out who takes advantage of the fact im female, pregnant and have no idea what the problem is but need it fixed as need CH for when i have baby.. which could be any time now.

Please can any 1 advise me on what i can try.. or what they think may b wrong so if i do ring some one i at least sound like i know something

many thanks x

Sorry, didnt mean to sound sexist then! Re-read and feel embarressed now! Just feel a bit vulnerable
I also forgot to say ive now started to get a small amount of black bits in my hot water now too when running a bath.

I don't know, but if you are not satisfied with your previous plumber, start asking around friends and neighbours, and the other ante-natals, for a local plumber and CH engineer they would recommend.

That sounds serious! I have taken advice from Martha who has delivered about 100 babies. She says that you are overdue and must contact your midwife immediately as babies are born after 9 months!

Tony

Why don't you call the national company thats charges a one off fee think its £144 regardless of time and material providing it only one fault and not a collection of faults
waiting for smart a**e comments now

I think that you can still have babies free on the NHS as long as there is an "R" in the month!

There is no NHS for boilers as I have to remind doctors when they complain about our prices ( when they are on £100,000 per annum and dont even do callouts! )

Tony

It sounds like the boiler temperature is up too high, try turning the boiler temperature down and releasing any trapped air from any bleed screw you can find. Excuse the expression.

The black bits are probably the disturbed bits from the 'boiled' vent pipe and any crud disturbed from the bottom of the tank. The cold storage tank is probably serving as your central heating header tank.

The noise you are hearing is the boiled water venting back up to the tank, these jets of steaming hot water, with the black bits, are now finding there way into your domestic hot water supply when you run the hot taps.

in actual fact tony, gestation period for baby is 40 weeks. 4 weeks = 1 month.... therefore 40 weeks = 10 months.

9 months is actually calendar months,

i fort all plumbers new that, how long you bin in the game tony, dont tell me you aint delivered any babies for your customers, especially when the pump stops. BANG BANG.

I thought it was about 266 days, = 38 weeks.
A horse is a bit longer especially the first, at about 48 weeks, so if those kicks are particularly strong you might be looking for a stable relationship.

The heating system sounds like it has something like a partial blockage, a plumbing error, a pump on its last legs, or a thermostat in the boiler dud.
Shouldn't be anything huge.

The heating problem, that is - can't say for Neddy.
I was 11lb 4oz, so it's all my mother's fault.

Martha says that a standard babies weight at birth is about 3 kG ( thats 6.6 lbs in old weight. )

That would have made Chris 70% overweight at birth!

I dont see many competent boiler engineers as often "ripping off" anyone.

A couple of years ago I was ripped off by a pregnant lady who called me with an urgent plea for me to come out on a Saturday evening when I was getting ready to go to a party because she had a gas leak!

On arrival I saw a sheepish looking husband who had drilled into a water pipe under the kitchen floor. The water leaking out identified a line of bubbles where he had also drilled holes into a gas pipe.

On ur due date u r 10 months preg

Chap i called out took over a week to come out, charged me for new thermist and call out but i still had noisy problem, after 2nd visit he charged me again to fix leak but still not the noise so kinda put me off calling any 1 else out till i knew more about what could be the fault.

Would rather try fix problem myself if something silly or at least have an idea whats wrong. Have turned thermistat down but still have the boiling. got some one comming out Thurs whos a friend of a friend so fingers crossed  hope baby not here by then as have had to turn heating off due to noise so hse freezing

Thanks for help anyway - hope it is something silly like just needs bleeding as air trapped :?

Its very difficult for us to come to any opinion on the ( unspecified ) charges made, or the faults cured or not, without the full details.

Obviously you are not so happy with him but would you tell us his name and how much he charged you?

Tony

Altogether i was charged £130, he changed thermistat in my living room and put a sealer on the pipe coming from the smaller of the two tanks (which was leaking) in my loft. This has since started leaking again. The problem i have with the loud boiling noise has never been fixed at any visit.

The man was corgi registered but i dont know his name, i was given his number thru my mother in law who was here when he came as i was working so i never met him.

The guy coming Thurs thinks its possibly a pump or blockage which some one else said on here. The small tank is constantly boiling without much water in it tho there is water dripping slightly from a pipe which goes into it from the larger one so possibly it should be filling it up more then it is? The leak is comming from another pipe (poss overflow pipe?) the other side of the small tank and happens whenever this tank boils which is now constantly - was only happening b4 when central heating due on or hot water had been used.
