Plug in balcony solar UK , just a Lidl question

...... But we still do have some single phase motors, and when I was talking about changing over generators, these were supplying an accommodation block, with loads of ACs to keep the rooms cool. If it had not had so many refrigeration units, or if they were inverter drives, it would not have mattered so much.
Fair enough - but I still believe that you are thinking/talking way beyond what one will normally find in a standard domestic installation!

Exactly, so it needs to be in sync before the power outage to be sure no problem when changing over due to back EMF from motors etc, and also with return it needs to sync before letting the grid supply take over again.

I firmly believe Eric is describing both of my very elderly UPS's (1KW moved on a while back and a smaller ~150w sort of size) in a way I understood UPS's always worked, even the large relay/contactor changeover versions I've integrated into BMS systems which run cool in normal conditions but hot when under load.

I wasn't really talking about the nature of the UPS/whatever.

Rather, I was saying that his belief that ('because of phase differences an back EMFs') it was important that when the inverter fires up and starts supplying the load it is 'in phase' with what the mains supply had been before it failed seemed, to me, to not be relevant to a domestic installation (and particularly not when he started talking about 'waiting 5 minutes'!)
