The batten to which the curtain poles etc were attached has come away from the lintel above the window - presumably the weight of the curtains was too much for the fixings. Considerable damage has been done to some of the holes in the lintel, drilled to take the plastic plugs. We have bought much lighter curtains and the idea was to replace the plugs with larger longer ones.
Could I just fill the holes with some sort of compound and re-drill them? If so, what would be the best compound to use?
I would be grateful for any suggestions or advice.

You could fill with plaster or filler mixed with pva, insert new plugs before it sets and leave a couple of days before fixing baton.
Or just fix to those which are still good and add gripfill to the baton to strengthen.

Thanks for the advice. I've got some Unibond NMN so I'll give it a go.

If the plugs have come out of the lintel, then it sounds like the screws were too small for the plugs? So just using larger screws in the same plugs, or replacing the plugs would do it.

Generally I go with a 6mm plug with a no4 or 4.5 screw, 7mm plug with no 5 screws, and 8mm plug for no 6 and 7 screws.

Thanks for the reply. My main problem is that, even using a SDS drill (Ryobi), there seems to be a point at which I can make no further progress into the lintel (my wife says she can hear the bit hitting metal) and the hole just gets wider. The original screws were 8s and I've moved up to 10s. I'm now thinking of just filling with NMN as best I can, and shortening the plastic rawlplugs. The new curtains are considerably lighter, so it may work
