I have a 1960's house with large windows and what seem to be heavy duty lintels.

I am trying to put up curtain rail/pole brackets but I cant drill the holes because the lintels seem to be incredibly solid.

I have used a masonry drill, a drill on hammer setting and normal setting.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the holes drilled.

Bin that drill and go for sds - as the other guys said - they can be got relatively cheap from diy stores - they revolutionised the building industry years ago ;)

Have you checked that it is not a steel lintel, like a Catnic? If it is, SDS will not touch it.

Steel can be drilled with an appropriate bit, drill, speed and patience ;)

you really need to get up high and put presure on the drill, if it is a steel lintel then you need good quality drill bits like Dormer / SKF
