Hi

I had a plumber come round to fix a problem with my boiler. He unscrewed the wall thermostat as part of his fault finding. Now though, it seems the wall thermostat is being bypassed altogether as my heating comes on regardless whether thermostat is on 0 or 30. Could he have wired it up incorrectly? How do I fix it? What problems can it lead to? And how does my boiler know when to turn off? I don't want to get him back out to fix something that he has caused as he will charge me!

Thanks for any advice.

And what was the problem with your boiler before you called upon someone?

Give him a ring; he caused the fault, and it's up to him to correct it.

Remove roomstat and post a photo of the wiring into the terminals. ‘Sounds’ as if he bypassed the stat to rule it out of the fault and ‘may’ have forgotten to reinstate it. If we can confirm that here you can either redo it yourself or send him the photo showing what he forgot!

In the short term- it won’t do any harm apart from waste gas and make your house very warm.

Is it possible he pushed the bypass on your 3 position valve?

Is the fault now fixed ?

As mentioned a photo inside the thermostat will help,if you need help to remove the thermostat cover then post a photo of the outside.

She's a real beauty, with just 2 wires. Could they be the wrong way round? Here are some links to pictures:

Doesn’t look bypassed.
Isolate power
Remove those two wires and make safe (choc block on end of each)
Restore power and see if boiler continues to fire.
If yes, then issue is elsewhere.

why would he bypass the thermostat when replacing the thermistor/ temp sensor , as above what boiler is it ?

In an earilier post, OP mentioned engineer had perhaps done this as part of fault finding process (see above).
