Plumbing of Washing Machine - can't stop the flow of water!

Hi,

Never really tackled any plumbing before. We've got two washing machines as one was in the house when we moved in. It's now knackered and I'm going to switch them over. Easy or so I thought. The two water pipes (red and blue) at the back are connected to the plumbing by red and blue tabs on the pipe work. I turned both 90 degrees and went to unscrew them from the machine. The red has come away fine with only a little trickle. The blue is still under pressure and squirts everywhere. Is the tap knackered? Should the tap be in line with the pipe or at 90 degrees when the tap is 'closed'?

Working back from the possible faulty blue tap is a myriad of other taps (I've got a dishwasher, water softner, drinking water etc) and even if I turn 'off' the other taps water still flows.

What am I doing wrong?

Try turning off your mains water stop tap. & then replace the faulty blue tap.

These little washing machine taps can be quite flimsy. I've seen a couple in the past that have seized open or closed (depending where they have been left). As a result, when I turned the plastic lever on the top of the tap, the plastic lever rotated but the shaft remains stuck.

A quick nip with the pliers as the lever was turned and it worked correctly again.

Yeah cheers ... might try the plier route first.
