...are ditching landlines once FTTP comes.

What are Plusnet customers here planning to do, or have done already?

The choices as I see them are to move to another provider who offers both BB and phone via the same service/ router.

Or, keep PN for BB and employ a VOIP service for phone access.

Or did as I have when moving to Plusnet from Talk Talk:
Ditch the landline altogether and use our mobiles (via WiFi calling if necessary).
NB that was FTTC (SOGEA to be more precise)... FTTP is coming soon.

Talk Talk and BT/EE offer the <Digital Voice> service on their modem-routers via a BT phone socket (and/or DECT connection). Plusnet would require another bit of kit to do the VOIP bit.

All will need some sort of battery backup when the mains power fails.

In a few years having a phone tied to a building rather than an individual will be as quaint as a red telephone box.

I forgot to say that this is for my Ma, who is 90 later this year and uses and relies on her landline an awful lot.

She doesn't get on with her mobile very well, so will not be ditching the landline.

Also she has a Carecall unit that will need a back-up in the event of a power cut.

I'd recommend then going for one of those that include the VOIP telephone BT socket line converters in the supplied routers... The path of least resistance.

Ensure Ma is on the ISP 'vulnerable user' register... a short term battery backup ought to be supplied foc, I understand when FTTP happens.

Alternative solutions just read as a pita to be remote-supported (VOIP box and account with a n other provider).

Check with Plusnet website / customer service as I believe they semi-automatically push people to EE when they want to retain a "landline" phone service. No early termination fees to transfer (if applicable/in contract with Plusnet).

Note that to connect from the router BT socket to the house phone extension wiring may need an extra step (that may or may not be included in the FTTP installation)... someone here may know for certain (MSE forum is worth looking as well).

Check the Carecall will work on a Digital Voice line (or if it needs upgraded/changed in any way).

That is the most important step - do it first, NOW, Today! - Both in writing and by a 'phone call or more.

Carecall 'should' know who provides the best Router and VOIP service to work with their kit. Don't leave it until after the conversion is done.
