Hello,

Some of the brickwork in my 1890 home needs repointing.

Please could someone offer a bit of advice on the best mortar mix?

I have been told that old bricks need a specific combination of sand, cement etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Paul

It rather depends on the mortar in the existing

cement started to replace lime as the binder in mortar in later 1800s so your property could be anything

what is the bed thickness - modern cement mortars are mostly around 10mm
