If I take my kitchen door off its hinges, do I then have an open-plan kitchen extending into the hallway?

:D

No, you have a door frame in between with hinges still attached. Two separate rooms.
What if you also removed the door frame and made good?

no. what you will have is an open plan hallway. 8)

is there a point to this pointless debate.

do i smell a fire reg' or a vent's reg'?

What if a small shower room connected to the hallway had the door removed. Would you have an open plan kitchenbathroomette?

Or open-plan kitchen/hall with en-suite?
