I have bought a pallet of limestone tiles for my new bathroom, and am wondering what is the best way to polish some of these tiles for use on the floor.

As they are now, the tiles are fairly smooth already, but does not have the polished look that I want for the floor. I have seen a polished limestone tile (ToppsTiles), but they only do them in 30x30 cm (my tiles are 60x30cm), and are 4 times the cost of my tiles.

My plan was to polish the tiles with a circular hand polishing machine using some type of polishing powder, however I do not know what powder to use.

any help will be much appcreciated.

You need a Flex polisher and a range of progressively finer diamond pads, will set you back over £500, It will not be ideal and the finish may be uneven in unskilled hands

You really need specialist tools and machines for "polish in place" work which will cost several thousand pounds, even to have it done by a specialist will be a lot of money.

Only other option is to take the tiles to a local stone mason and see what they will charge to polish them on their machines.

Now you see why the polished ones cost more than honed :!:

Have you applied any intensifier to the tiles, this will usually bring up a sheen as supplied most stone is unsealed and looks matt. Try wetting a tile, if you like the look then it needs intensifier, if you prefer the matt look then an impregnating sealer will be better. Have a look at Lithofin products, don't use cheap sealer.

I would strongly advise against polished stone floors in a bathroom, accident waiting to happen.
