pop up waste

I have one of those pop up waste thingys which works from a lever on the mixer tap, need to replace the plug and especially the plastic strainer but cannot find one to fit! standard 40mm is too big. the plastic strainer is around 28mm across, the plug is 38mm across and the whole thing is 60mm in depth.

I've not come across a manufacturer who does 'spares' for their pop-up wastes.
Why not replace the waste with a clicker waste or a rotary plug waste?

seems that the basin which is one big unit incorperating cupboard and mirror all in one unit came from germany, would this make a difference? maybe european size is different.
many thanks and will look into a clicker if nothing else can be done.
