possible 3 port valve fault??

Hi,

i am having problems with my heating system.when my ch and hw is switched off the water still pumps around and if i move the 3 port valve it stops.
does any1 no if it sounds as tho the valve is faulty and needs replacing.

Is the boiler still firing up when the pump is running ?
is it only happening on heating ?

when i have the ch and hw on i can here the pump running upstairs in the airing cupboard where the hot water tank is,when the ch and hw gets switched off when we go to bed i can still here the pump running as if the system is calling for ch or hw.i have to physically move the switch on the valve to get it to stop. the pump just constantly runs other wise

You can replace the heads on the valves, but if the hot water and central heating are not calling for heat, the pump should not be energised, unless it is pump overrun.

How long does the pump run for after the request for demand head been extinguished?

what programmer are you using?

Are you getting 230 volts on the orange wire on the 10 way box . sundial wiring centre?

Hi,

i have spoke to a heating eng today and he told me to check a few things.he thinks it is programmer on the wall not the valve.
he is coming tommorow to have a look.

Doubt the programmer is at fault by what you describe.

The orange wire from the 3 port is the switched live for the boiler and pump in your system (terminal 8 in the 10 way wiring box).

This wire is energised by either the white wire (central heating ON) or the grey wire is Hot water OFF).

If you turn the hot water and central heating off on your programmer and the pump is still on, either the cylinder stat or programmer has gone a they are the only connection to terminal 8 which energises the pump and boiler respectively.
